Industrial Metrology comprises all methods and instruments used to carry out measurement operations -or measurement- on machined workpieces (or to be machined) and materials. There are different types of devices dedicated for metrology operations. It is possible to get them on the second-hand market, provided they have been checked by experts. The efficiency of these devices is totally based on their ability to measure accurately. Among these metrology machines, tool presetter allows the measurement and the adjustment of cutting tools. It’s termed "first good part" when the cutting operation can be switched after each tool change without having to redo the adjustments. Manurhin, Tornos, and Zoller are ranked among the major manufacturers of preset benches. The TESA company is among the major manufacturers of measurement columns. The measuring column is a device used to measure, on one or two dimensions, lengths of external and internal sides, heights and depths. The models of measurement columns differ according to their measurement ranges. Other metrology devices, the hardness tester or durometer is an instrument of materials mechanical strength control. Among others, Buehler, EMCO and Rockwell are stated as well known manufacturers of this type of devices. To analyze the states of the surfaces and the microstructures, the microscope is used. The choice of a model depends on the magnifications available, the resolution, and the technology used. Industrial microscopes such as those designed by Mantis and Reichert Polyvar are reference products. The profile projector allows the control workspieces surfaces and shapes thanks to superimposing on the screen of a typical profile traced on transparent and enlarged. The products labelled Hauser, ISOMA, Marcel Aubert, Mitutoyo, Nikon and Werth have a good reputation in this field. The rugosimeter allows the measurement of the state of surfaces and the hood measures the airflow, whereas the tri-dimensional metrology instruments allow the control of the dimensional accuracy in space (axes x, y, and z). These second-hand equipements mainly require a calibration by the manufacturer.
