As its name suggests, the turning/milling center is a machine that combines turning and milling operations. As a reminder, milling means removing material from the workpiece to be machined throughout the rotation of a tool; the milling machine. As for the turning, it comprises the machining techniques of workpieces based on the combination of the rotation of the workpieces and the advance movement of the cutting tool. The turn-mill center is a digital control (CNC) machine tool associated with a CADM software (Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing). This allows developing an ISO language code intended for the management of the moving parts of the machine, namely: spindles, trucks, turrets or tables. In a turning/milling center, the number of axes corresponds to the degree of complexity of the workpieces to be machined. The three axes X, Y and Z are translation axes, while the other axes are associated with the swivel or changeover movement. We can add specific axes, according to the manufacturers or operators. There are different models of turn/mill centers machine tools on the second-hand market. Still, we have to choose the appropriate equipment, i.e, the one that has been thoroughly checked to offer a level of performance close to the new one. The second-hand turn-mill center centers that go through RDMO workshops are checked in the tiny detail, guaranteeing the best functioning and the best possible results. The choice of a model of machining/milling center has to be done by taking into account the technologies used in the machine (the number of axes, which can vary from two to five or even more, the number of spindles, a vertical, horizontal or universal machining plan, the number of turrets, the position the bench ...), the applications (specific material, the size of workpieces ...) and specific needs (high performance, high speed, high precision, high productivity, compactness... ). The companies Okuma, WFL , MoriSeiki, Index, Realmeca, STAMA, Heller, EMAG, and Mazak are among the major manufacturers of turning/milling centers.
